This level of hate, prejudice and narrow-mindednes makes me weep.



John C. Wright speaks about homosexuality and GLAAD's (SciFi channel) plan to incorporate more sexual diversity in their program. I was tempted to rephrase and report what he said in my own words. I do think, though, that I cannot be sufficiently eloquent and therefore ask you to make up your own mind. Here are some quotes:

In the case of the sexual appetite, the drive for sexual passion drives us to have sex. Sex is the coupling act between two opposite sexes. The stimulation of the sex organs accidental to the sex act produce sexual pleasure, but are not sex itself. Homosexuals have a sexual desires directed toward another with whom they cannot couple: two of the same sex cannot have sex. All they can do is masturbate each other, or sodomize each other, or some other accidental side-effect of sex that is not sex properly so called. Hence the appetite is not directed at its object.

Personally, I was annoyed that a nice sensitive character like Gaeta had to end up being gay and that such characters are now commonly assumed in fan communities to be such.

SyFy went down the road of dumb with its stupid name change and now it's just going to get worse. What, do they have to put an obviously gay investigator on "Ghost Hunters?" Must there be gay zombies now in their Saturday night movies?

Basically, in order to really try to convince them of anything, and I recognize that's not what you're trying to do here, you have to start with a very basic explanation of Natural Law and work your way up step by step. Alternately, you could try to demonstrate that there is no way to disapprove of polygamy or incest without recourse to the same set of reasons that let others disapprove of homosexuality, but half the time I've seen that used, the other side just drops their objections to polygamy and incest.




A comment of someone disagreeing was deleted. Though as the debate goes on, there are more and more voices of people who disapprove.

I'm speechless.

Someone tries to reason, someone else tries to explain when sex is selfish and when it's not. And this poster plans to assrape a dead goat with a crucifix strap-on in front of some schoolchildren. I actually think this is the only possible reaction and approve.

ETA. After a storm of outrage Mr. Wright first deleted all comments, then the whole entry. *cuddles the internet* I do have screen shots, though...

I just read the post and most of the comments from the first page. I honestly thought he was joking at first! That he was expressing disdain for the way the Sci-Fi network responded to the failing grade. ("It is not about, 'Oh, look, isn't that progressive, that this person is gay?' No, they are simply gay. There is no commentary necessary," he says. "And that's what were striving for, to make it a naturalistic thing.") I thought he was being sarcastic by comparing it to bestiality and pedophilia, implying that they must see homosexuality as tantamount to the filthiest of sexual perversions if they to have to work so hard to make it "seem" natural. But he clearly meant every word. Such a sharp reminder of the gulf separating people from one another. I can't see his words as anything but disgusting to the point of being ridiculous, and he obviously feels the same way about the dissenting comments. I guess that's why I don't feel angry, only that I wasted my time! (not your fault, btw)

Also, I guess I'm a bad sci-fi fan because I've never heard of this guy.

He is definitely not joking and not being sarcastic. The question is if he is serious and actually believes all that bullshit, or if he thinks he found a clever way to promote his books by getting attention. Either way it's disgusting.

I've never heard of him either before. But I'm usually not that much into sifi, so it doesn't surprise me.

Yeah, I think so, too. It just boggles my mind how someone can actually believe that. He's completely disregarding logic, rationality, facts, science... If it wasn't so insulting and like you said disgusting, one would almost have to admire it.

I have such a hard time responding to things like that... They say that we liberals never use intellect/facts/reasoning to explain our position, but it doesn't seem that way to me. It's hard to explain things to people when you have different ideas about what the word 'fact' means. Usually I'm all for trying to explain my views when people ask for it. But with people like him, it's just not going to do anything. It's honestly not worth the time. I'd just get too mad...

Yes. I admire the time some people dedicated to answer with carefully crafted arguments. Of course, now he's throwing a tantrum and deleted/screened all comments because there was too much disagreement. I left a comment mainly to disagree publicly. All that's left is to spread the word, I guess.

Not a huge argument or anything, just a couple little snippets (honestly, I should probably just keep it typed up so I can copy and paste - I get so tired of saying the same things over and over). I cannot help myself in that regard. I know that it would be more intelligent to just step back, but I can't stop reading his crap. Now he put up a post with an eloquent comparison of incest and 'homosex' (I actually start to like that term, but I'm pretty sure it's not what he intended), turning off non-friends comments. Ugh, yeah. If I wasn't on vacation I probably would too. I hate it when people ask for reasoned arguments and then don't actually let anyone who would give them leave comments. I wonder if he'll reply to your message, or just ignore it?
