Thank you for all the love and lovely comments on my last post. It helped. You're all wonderful. ♥ ♥ ♥

Short update: My mum's still in the clinic, and I hope she's improving. I couldn't talk to her yet but talked to one of the doctors. The rest is still bugging me, but it's stuff I can deal with. I hope this week will be better.

Meme 1:
I like reading about people on my f-list. Sometimes there are things I'd love to know but don't dare to ask because it is too private, none of my business, or maybe I should already know. If there's anything you'd like to ask me, go ahead, I'll try to answer every question.

Meme 2:
1. Leave me a comment if you want to do the meme.
2. I'll reply with 6 of your icons and then you post this up and describe them!

[ profile] thimble_kiss gave me those six icons to describe:

Tinkerbell: This is Tinkerbell in one of her rare moments where she was caught not acting. She looks back over her shoulder at the director of the movie, thinking, "What the hell made you think this costume is a good idea?" I love the look on her face and it's my default icon.

Sheep: Sheep are awesome. I had five of them for years, but sadly, the last one, Lotta, died just a few months ago. They are amazing, cute animals, each having its own personality. Lotta was a nutter, and I loved her madly. Fun fact: I added this particular icon to my collection specifically for a conversation with beloved [ profile] thimble_kiss.

Winter: This is a story icon. For most of my stories, I have icons. I used this one for Glimpses of Christmas, a Harry/Ron story told in ten drabbles. I'm still very fond of that short story, and of the icon as well - it always reminds me of one of my favourite poems: Robert Frost's Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening.

Goldfish: Ha! Miss Kiss knows exactly where that icon comes from. It's an icon I made for the RP community [ profile] crossingsend where we're both players. I love that place because it's relaxed and laid back and free of pressure. Why a goldfish? Because goldfishes don't have hands to masturbate. Fun fact: There's a typo in the icon, but I deliberately never corrected it because it always makes me grin at myself.

Eat.Sleep.Read: That's my rec icon. I love the simplicity of it. The clear message is sexy.

Quäl Dich Du Sau!: Right. Before I attempt to translate it, let me tell you the story.

It's a quote and it was said in 1997 during the Tour de France. German racing cyclist Jan Ullrich was wearing yellow, meaning he was in the lead. It was a hard day for him. He was exhausted and tired, and the lead was shrinking. Udo Bölts, also member of the German team, realised that Ullrich was losing his drive. Bölts who was desperate to motivate Ullrich, finally yelled 'Quäl Dich, Du Sau!' A nearby microphone recorded it, Ullrich won, and what Bölts yelled exploded into an idiom. I hear and say it often, especially at the end of an eight hour ski day like last weekend, after carrying a heavy backpack for days and too many miles, or half an hour before I finally reach a summit.

I struggled with the translation and came up with: "Push through, bitch."
'Quäl dich' (literal translation is torture yourself) implies suffering in order to accomplish something, and 'Du Sau' is a vulgar expression that comes from a female pig, but doesn't have the same connotation as calling someone a 'pig' in English.

This is my favourite icon ever.

Yay! I like them, especially the one with the lemons. That made me giggle.

1. Flygirl-- I'm a flight attendant. I spend a lot of time flying and I love it. I love planes and all the craziness that goes with them. Also, I think fighter pilots are awesome and wish I could be one myself, preferably in space... but, um, that will never happen. sadly.

2. I would totally be sorted into Ravenclaw if I were at Hogwarts. I think everyone has a little of all 4 houses in them somewhere, but I'm mostly a Ravenclaw. I kinda wish Harry had met a few cooler Ravenclaws, because most of them were right tossers in the books. Cho and Marietta... ugh. Luna was the only decent one really that was mentioned much in canon. I'm a bookworm and a geek and actually quite bright, but people still think that I must be a total moron when they meet me, because I am reasonably decent looking and a flight attendant. It's annoying. Plus I like the combo of the sw/hp fandoms in one pretty blue icon.

3. Ah, Seamus. I actually want to find a different Seamus icon, but haven't really found one. Dean/Seamus is my OTP and it was the pairing that really sucked me into fandom and was my first slash ship. I love those boys. I do wish that dirty thoughts Seamus was a bit older in the icon though, because using his cute little 11 year old face for dirty Dean/Seamus stories makes me feel like a bit of a perv.

4. I am in love with Hikaru Sulu. And I like this pic of John Cho. Sulu pilots a starship, is a scientist (doctorate in astrophysics and a botany obsession), and is totally bad ass. He's amazing and I spend too much of my free time writing stories about him.

5. Um, also I love Bridget Jones's Diary-- I've seen the movie dozens of times and she's just so awkward and delightful. And that's one of my fav scenes-- I can give up... or not. Instead I choose vodka-- and Chaka Khan. Plus, I'm eternally single, so she holds a special place in my heart.

6. when life gives you lemons, shut up and eat your damn lemons-- I so agree with this. I've never liked lemonade-- it's too sweet and sticky. Life sucks sometimes and bad things happen, but trying to sugarcoat them won't help. I say eat your damn lemons and wait for dessert, because it'll come, eventually.

wow, so much more than you ever wanted to know about me. haha. :D

Now the Flygirl makes sense! I've been wondering what the story behind that was. I like flying, but I don't think I'd be equipped to be either a flight attendant or a pilot. I admire those who are.

Hmm, for many reasons I adore Cho. I think she's a great character. I can agree on Luna, though. She's brilliant.

I love the vodka icon. It's appropriate for so many situations. Somehow I didn't get at first that it was Bridget Jones, but of course I remember that scene. Made of so much win.

Thank you for sharing! It's fascinating to learn more about you, and I definitely wanted to know.

1. My default icon. Made by radio_silent, and doesn't have any huge meaning beyond the fact that it's pretty and I like it. Green/brown/purple is a color palate I like a lot.

2. A quote from Firefly, but also fairly applicable to my life. :P Mostly used when I post/comment when I should be doing something else.

3. I don't use it too often, but I love this icon. Almost as much as I love the fic it's from, Trying to Communicate by copperbadge/sam_storyteller. Lolcats + Torchwood can only equal awesome. Seriously, I think I have most of this fic memorized.

4. You might have noticed how much my first reacting to things is "OMG SQUEEEEE!" I thought the warning sign might be useful. :D

5. Don't actually use this one for that many things - that one little bead by itself makes it too sad to use for most fandom squee type things.

6. My surprised!Doctor icon. For when things are alarming, or when I just want to stare at David Tennant's face.

I think they're all lovely. But I look at the one with the heart differently. It doesn't look sad to me. I was grinning when I saw it. I imagined a group of those red beads hanging around and doing beady stuff. They get bored and one of them decides, 'Come on, guys, we're making a heart!' And everyone moves and skitters around. Just one of them is distracted, or lacing its little boots, or texting its mum, and it looks up and everyone else is already in shape and waving. So it's flailing its little arms and hurries over to take its space that's been left open for it. (quite possibly I'm overthinking this...)

I soundly approve of 4 and 6. And 1 is totally shiny.

Awww, that's a cute interpretation. But I think if I was going to take that approach, I'd want there to be a little speech bubble with the line "Wait up guys!" or something like that. :P

'Miss Kiss'! That made me melt. :) And now I know the reason for the goldfish – surprising, but sensible. *nods*

I had no idea about the typo, but now I can grin at your quirky German self along with you. Hee!

And thanks for the explanation of the German expression! Because of similarities to Norwegian words, I've always thought of it as 'Strangle yourself, you sheep'. (Sau is sheep in Norwegian.) (I did of course realise that it didn't mean that, but it sounds like that, in Norwegian. *g*) That is a fun story, by the way!

And speaking of sheep, it also makes me melt that you uploaded such an adorable icon to use with me! ♥

I do love your default icon – I love all of these, and countless of your other ones. You've got some of the best icons on my flist and are one of those I think of as having a unique icon 'style'. :)

Thanks for playing! ♥ And, oh, would you give me six of mine? I'll do the meme again here in your comments.

I think Miss Kiss fits perfectly (and you have to admit that 'Thimble' is a bit of a silly first name :P).

It's one of the typos that's always there. I think it's one of the things Liz already corrected about a thousand times, along with thought/though, basket/basked. I know how to do it right, but I just don't see it.

'Strangle yourself, you sheep,' made me laugh hysterically. I'll have to adapt that phrase. It's just beautiful.

And I adore your icons. Tell me more about those, please:

Strangle yourself, you sheep – the ultimate expression of disgust! :D

And you're right that 'Thimble' seems a bit... inadequate on its own.

I loff your selection of my icons. I have stuff to say about this... stuff!

The campfire icon is, I think, the oldest one I currently have in use. It stems from at least 6-7 years back when I was in a different fandom, had a different journal, and went by another pen name. :) *swishes the cloak of my mysterious past around me* Anyhow – I've kept it because it expresses companionship, friendship, safety, warmth, light, love, fun, mystery, hope, and a bit of romance. What more can you ask from one little icon? :)

The Hagrid and Harry one makes me go all squishy inside. I know Hagrid tends to be scoffed at in fandom, and I must admit that the whole Grawp adventure was annoying in the extreme. But I love Hagrid in the books and in the movies. He's loving and more sensible than he gets credit for. And it's wee!Harry! Like most fans (I assume) I got sucked into this fandom by reading about this small, lonely eleven year old boy who grew up in a spidery cupboard, without anyone to love him – and yet turned into... Harry. Just Harry. The idea gives me tears in my eyes. And many tend to go on about how dysfunctional Harry is and selfish and capslock!anger and blah blah blah, but considering that background? It's a miracle that he grew up to this cool little person who cares about others enough to be willing to try to save the world. I loff Harry. I think when it comes right down to it, he's still my favourite HP character, just like in the beginning. :)

Zooey Deschanel has such an awesome face. I picked her for a pb for Morag McDougal in a game that I withdrew from without ever playing. Oh well. I fell for those blonde icons of her (she's usually brunette, of course). She seems ditzy, yet smart. I love her innocent/speculative look in the icon above; it makes me giggle. I also love tulips and golden yellow. This is a pretty all-purpose icon for me. It's also a perfect spring icon.

The peas! I picked this off an icon post by [ profile] cunning_croft. Then I discovered that you have this 'give peas a chance' icon, and what's more logical and accomodating than to answer that icon with... an icon of peas? :) I mean to edit the keyword of this icon to add 'peace', but i keep forgetting. Also, it's pretty. And French. And I keep it mostly for conversations with you. :)

Hehe, the 'oh, oh, oh no' icon is of Caroline Dhavernas in her role in Wonderfalls. She's having an 'oh, no, I didn't mean it like that' moment, so it would be perfect to use when one feels misconstrued (or has let slip more than one intended and is trying hard for damage control, which I think it was on the show). (Un)fortunately, I'm generally so careful about how I express myself that I'm rarely misconstrued, hence I never have an opportunity to use the icon. I just like it in theory!

The blueberry snail is so tiny and sweet! There's lots about this that I love. One one level it's all about perspective. :) On a more straightforward level, I love blueberries and they're a cherished childhood memory, from summers when we visited my paternal grandparents' house in the country. I'd go into the woods just outside the fence and come back with a cup full of blueberries, which my granny would put in a bowl for me with sugar and milk that slowly turned blue as I ate. :) This icon has an optimistic tone for me. After all – that little snail wouldn't be on the blueberry mountain unless it liked blueberries, too. It might be about hurdles to be overcome, but it could also be about blueberry heaven, and enjoying the road as you go.

Oooh, different fandom. Now I'm terribly curious. Will you tell me? Can I cuddle with you under your swishy cloak? Can I share your mysteries? Will you share your fire with me? I have two days off, so whenever you're around hit me up on YM, we haven't talked in centuries.

I love Hagrid so much. He was the first character I fell in love with. His heart is so big, it could smash a whale. He's such a rock, and so lovingly drawn. Everyone should have a Hagrid.

Peas! I love peas, that's why I love my 'give peas a chance' icon so very much. They are awesome. And yours is so terribly pretty. I always smile when I see it.

And omg the wee snail. I have some animal icons that I'm making and there's one with a wee snail, too. They're so adorable. And I love the colours of this icon. The cool blue, and the way it looks up at what's to come.
