This morning, I slept until nine, got up, took a shower, pulled on my holey denims and baggy t-shirt, and made myself a cup of coffee with loads of milk.

Then I thought to myself, "Might as well have a look what's going on in LJ land." I didn't have the time to do much reading lately, and getting lost in the anarchic part of the internet between friends and strangers and creativity sounds brilliant.

So I turned on my computer, added some sugar to my coffee because I'm just that frivolous, logged in, poked around, updated my stories-to-read-list, considered for the hundredth time taking over an abandoned newsletter but again postponed messaging the mod, and then- wait a moment...

Whoa.

Rules!!!

The Ministry of Minimizing Variety in Fandom Interaction (MoMViFI) is enforcing the new standard for commenting.

So. I would like to announce (after padding to the fruit bowl and cutting myself a mango and an apple): This journal is a rule free zone.

And, as this is a rule free zone, here are the rules:
  • If you read one of my stories and want to tell me it sucks - do it!
  • If you read one of my stories and want to leave constructive criticism (or ANY criticism) - do it! It's the only way I can improve and I'll be more than grateful. In fact, I have a hard time not getting angry at people who say criticism is a bad thing. They hinder this kind of creative exchange.
  • If you read one of my stories but don't want to comment (the horror!) - don't do it. You don't owe me shit (Edited for clarification).
  • If you read one of my stories and want to leave me a rec for another story which you think I might like - do it! I love recs.
  • If you see a comment on one of my stories and you want to reply to this comment - do it! Interaction and communication is good.
  • If you read one of my stories and you want to tell me you like it - do it! Use two, two hundred or two thousand words. I'm interested in your thoughts, and I feel like a cookie in warm milk if someone likes what I write.
  • If you stumble upon one of my unlocked entries and want to comment despite not being on my f-list - do it! Unlocked means open for everyone.
  • If you want to comment on one of my entries despite having a different opinion (the horror!) - do it! With time and chocolate, I'll get over it. I promise.
  • If you comment, don't be surprised if I answer, and don't don't be surprised if it sometimes takes a day or two.
  • If you want to friend me - do it! You don't have to justify wanting to read my entries, and I like friends.
  • If you want to defriend me - do it! You don't have to justify not wanting to read my entries, and I like honesty.

tl;dr. Everything in this journal is open for discussion, criticism, praise and challenging, including stories. If I don't want you to comment, I'll turn the feature off. If I don't want you to read, I'll lock. If I don't want interaction, I DON'T POST ON THE INTERNET.

The first one who replies to this post with the valid critique that starting a story with the main character waking up is a trope, gets a drabble of their choice.

Starting a story with the main character waking up is a trope, but I like it anyway. :D Pairing and prompt for drabble to follow shortly – huzzah!

Also, your rules are awesome!

(And now I'm really going into the shower.)

Okay, drabble prompt: Luna and Ollivander (gen!) while they were prisoners. She was a comfort to him, and maybe he to her as well? – I'd love an example of that. :)

That is one awesome prompt. *hastily opens word before brain explodes*

Drabble: Prisoners (Ollivander, Luna)

They hold hands, the old man and the young girl in the dark cell on the dirty ground.

Desperation is seductive; it walks in the wake of hunger and pain.

"I'm cold," she says, not crying.

He comes closer and tells her about wands and old magic, and about things only those who look can see.

"They forgot," he says, not bitter.

She wraps an arm around him and shares stories about nargles and mooncalves, and about the sky's beauty.

They hope. She has friends, and he has wisdom; she has love, and he has lived. There's faith between them.

She has friends, and he has wisdom; she has love, and he has lived. I think you nailed it. This is so beautiful. I'm undeserving, to get something so lovely for one flippant comment. :) Thank you!

*kisses your brain*

And why yes, I've figured out your sneaky angling for my milk and cookies icon. I might of course be contrary and withhold it – but I would never be so mean. :) *flashes it again*

"They forgot," he says, not bitter.

Oh, that got me. I especially love the image of him telling her stories about wand and old magic, and her understanding when he tells her about the things only those who look can see. That was lovely. ♥

Thank you!

I imagine that being alone together in such a situation must cause a bond of some sort.

Also: Did you notice that I slip a cookie/milk reference into all of my posts just so that I can manipulate you into using that icon?

I seriously wish every writer would have this sort of thing posted at the top of their journal. I generally comment a lot, but sometimes I'm just not sure whether I'm going to offend someone or not.

If there's one person who shouldn't be concerned, it's you. Seriously. You comment always, you leave great feedback, and when you leave concrit, it's always helpful and necessary. Plus you're a regular and great reccer.

Thank you for being awesome.

Comments are like little gifts. I'd never request them, but I love, love, love getting them, even if it's the scratchy underwear from a distant aunt. Who knows, during a cold winter, I might be grateful for it. (If there was payment for bad analogies, I'd be incredibly rich)

Oh, thanks for saying so! You just never know. It's hard on the internet since we don't have body language or tone of voice to tell you how people are reacting to things.

Heh, I love your scratchy underwear metaphor. :-P

They do! It's a good show if you like crime shows with a little romance and humor, and if you aren't too concerned with uneven characterizations and gaping plot holes. :p

You are a good show representative. I did have a crush on Angel. She is also very pretty. Humor. This adds up to things that will eat my time. So I'm not calculating. For now.

Hee, I do have my quibbles with the show, but I have been watching it since the first season so I guess I'm emotionally attached. Angel is very attractive, and so is Emily Deschanel (she is Zoey Deschanel (http://blogs.sfweekly.com/shookdown/zooey-deschanel.jpg)'s sister). I think the show is entertaining, but it is in its fifth season right now, so if time is an issue then that is probably a good decision. *nods*

Oooh, Zooey's sister is an actress, too. I didn't know that. So how does that fit into the theory that Zooey is Kate Perry's twin sister separated at birth? This is all very sinister. I'm intrigued.

on 2010-03-11 10:58 pm (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] tailoredshirt.livejournal.com
LOL! Well, Emily is Zoey's younger sister, so Zoey still could be Katy's twin sister (and now that I think about it, this is a very likely theory). I suggest we pursue our own investigation into this matter.

I feel like a dog who peed all over the garden to mark its territory.

There's nothing wrong with wanting only nice things in ones own journal, but telling people how to comment on everyone's stories? That's a bit presumptuous. And by 'a bit' I mean, so much that it makes me want to pee all over my territory.

I'm okay. A bit stressed at the moment, but had some time off this week, so I slept more than usual, which is good.

*shakes fist at time zones*

Hope you're doing well, too.
